Eric White wants to pay it forward

Eric and his wife, Charlotte, have turned a family tradition into a community fund. For her birthday each year, his sister gives each family member $100 to spend on someone or something in need. Eric and Charlotte in the last year have upped the ante with the nonprofit SKJAJA fund (named with family members’ initials), working with local organizations to raise money and Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools to funnel it to kids who can’t afford to participate in extracurricular activities. “We recognize that there’s a lot of opportunity here for people,” he says. “But we also recognize that there’s a fair amount of people here who are unable to take advantage of that opportunity.”
