The benefits of extracurricular activities change as a child grows, and understanding the research behind those evolving benefits guides the decision to fund a SKJAJA application.
Research shows that students gain from extracurricular activities in different ways over time. Younger students benefit from more group-oriented activities, such as school field trips, after school programs and summer camps. As students age, they gain greater benefit from exploring activities that uncover their passion, whether it’s expanding their love of music or honing in on a specific sport.
SKJAJA’s Funding Guidelines by Grade provide some context for families looking to submit an application. While SKJAJA will consider all requests, the Applications Committee is tasked with approving funding that will provide the greatest impact for each student.
For reference, SKJAJA typically funds students for one semester at a time, or one "block" of classes, in order to allow the students to explore new activities and uncover their passions.
